Do probiotics go bad? Do they need refrigeration?

Josh Staub -

Since probiotics are live organisms they do begin to lose their strength over time. Aceva's probiotics are refrigerated at our distribution center and continued refrigeration will prolong the life of the bacteria.

However, clinical testing has shown that the product will maintain 100% of its potency for over six months at room temperature. Therefore, we do not make refrigeration mandatory but if you plan on keeping inventory for long periods of time, you can increase life span by keeping it in a fridge.
